  51. Absolutely everything I use on the Amiga outdoes what is available
  52. for any mac.  Faster than your PoorMac on my 030.  The damned PPC
  53. is a crippled chip to begin with - add a crippled MacOS and hardware
  54. which can't dma properly and you've got the picture.  I've run them
  55. side-by-side here.  The IIci is significantly more reliable and useful
  56. than the ppc macs and we all know the Amiga is light years ahead of
  57. any of the 68k macs.

  63. The only thing that survives from the old days of Amiga is the lack of
  64. advertising in the US.  Go to Europe some time.  It is not rejected due
  65. to any of the reasons you present - it is rejected for the very reason
  66. the Mac survives.  Advertising.  You don't advertise in the US you don't
  67. sell.  The Mac is hype - and only hype.

  69. If you want to compare machines on a performace base - where it really
  70. matters in the world - then you have nothing to stand on at all and you
  71. know this.  The PPC stands on ratings and naming itself 'RISC'.  It's
  72. not exactly a RISC chip now is it?  The Mac is attempting to get on the
  73. RISC wagon by using the one-interrupt-wonder as a selling platform...
  74. Slap a bunch of numbers on a product and throw in a few abbreviations
  75. and then say it's fast (even though it can't really do everything the
  76. 68k chips could though it's quite a bit better than the Pentium... That's
  77. another joke altogether) and NA (as you put it) will buy it.  Add a
  78. few monopolies in the software industry to force people into a set
  79. platform and you've sealed it.  One doesn't need the truth to make
  80. a buck - in fact people don't really seem to want the truth...

  86. Well - the 040 has a broken MMU.  Next to the PPC the 040 is the
  87. saddest thing that Motorola produces.  The 030 and the 060 are probably 
  88. the last of the good labeled CISC chips we will see for a while.  
  89. Until marketing somewhere decides that RISC is out and CISC is back
  90. in.
